This is one of my husband’s favorite dishes. And because it’s so easy and quick to make, I’m happy to make it for him whenever he requests it. It’s also very filling and will feed a crowd. Once you try this recipe, I’m sure it will become a family favorite too!

Ingredients

  • 1 package (19 oz) 1 Mild Italian Sausage, casing removed

  • 1 large 1 loaf of French bread, cut in half lengthwise

  • 1 large 1 onion, sliced thin

  • 8 ounces 8 fresh Portabella or white mushrooms, sliced thin

  • 4 cloves 4 fresh garlic, minced (or 1 tsp pre-minced garlic)

  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 black pepper

  • 2 cups 2 spaghetti sauce (I prefer Rao’s)

  • 4 ounces 4 mozzarella cheese, shredded

Directions

  • In a Dutch oven or large skillet, brown sausage. Set aside. Drain grease.
  • In same skillet, saute onion, mushrooms, garlic and pepper, about 5-8 minutes.
  • Stir in drained sausage and spaghetti sauce. Heat until bubbly, about 4 minutes.stromboli in skiller
  • Spread meat mixture over both halves of French bread and top with cheese.

  • Broil 6 inches under low flame for 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
  • Slice and serve.

Notes

  • Feel free to use your favorite sausage or ground beef with homemade or store bought french bread.
  • Use more or less spaghetti sauce depending on personal taste.
